Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design

What is Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design?

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) is based on the premise the proper design and effective use of the built environment can lead to a reduction in the incidence and fear of crime and to an increase in the quality of life.

CPTED offers a way to enhance the safety of home and neighborhoods by using design to eliminate or reduce criminal behavior and at the same time encourage people to keep an eye out for each other.
