Established in 1996, the Beaverton Police Department’s Bicycle Unit is staffed by two full time police officers. The Bicycle Unit focuses on problem-solving and proactive patrols of the downtown core area, city parks and transit centers in an effort to establish an approachable police presence. The Bicycle Unit maintains a strong relationship with the business community. Patrolling on bicycle gives members of the Bicycle Unit a unique opportunity to interact with the community and address specific livability issues.
Training & Safety
The Bicycle Unit
provides bicycle skills and safety training for youth and adult bicycle
commuters through partnerships with civic organizations, local business,
and schools. The Bicycle Unit continues to set the standard in the
areas of training and education. The department produces training
workshops for bicycle officers from around the state.
Event Management Team
Additionally, the Bicycle Patrol Unit manages the Bicycle Event
Management Team, which is staffed by as many as 16 officers working a
collateral assignment. This team deploys at planned and unplanned
community events for crowd monitoring, enforcement and citizen
