The Beaverton Police Department Veteran’s Liaison Program was established to help build a connection with members of the community who are either active/reserve military personnel or veteran’s that are interested in a career in law enforcement.
The Beaverton Police Department has officers who have served in every branch of the military, with some still serving in a Guard or Reserve status.
Thomas Hoerauf Tom joined the Marine Corps in 2008, serving five years as a 4612 Combat Lithographer, deployed to Afghanistan in 2010 with Third Battalion 1st Marines as a Videographer. He was also stationed on Marine Corps Base Hawaii as the Reprographics section Chief, photographer and videographer. In 2013, he received his bachelor's degree in biology from Portland State University. He has been with BPD for 5 years and is an EVOC Instructor and a member of the Honor Guard.
Matt Cline Matt joined the Army National Guard in 2001, serving for nine years as a Cavalry Scout, deployed to Baghdad, Iraq in 2004, and then in 2009. Stateside deployments included the Oregon Sour Biscuit fires, and Hurricane Disaster Relief in Louisiana, leaving the Army at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He's been with BPD for 15 years and is a Field Training Officer.
Chris Mithsada Chris joined the Marine Corps in 2005, serving four years as a 0311 Rifleman, deployed to Haditha, Iraq in 2006, Zaidon Al Anbar Province, Iraq in 2008, and Philippines in support of JSOFT in 2009. He joined the Oregon National Guard in 2011 and served for two years as a 68W - Medic. He has been with BPD for 5 years and is on the Bike Team.
Jacob Severson Jacob joined the Marine Corps in 1999 and served four years as 2146 Main Battle Tank Repair Technician, rising to the rank of Sergeant. He was deployed in Pakistan with the 15th MEW, during Operation Freedom. In 2019, he received his bachelor's degree in graphic design from Western Oregon University. He has been with BPD for 6 years and is a Field Training Officer, an EVOC Instructor and a member of the Honor Guard.
Steve Escobar Steve currently serves in the United States Army Reserve as a Sergeant. He joined the Army in 2012. His current MOS is 68W Combat Medic Specialist. He has had one non-combat deployment to Central America for humanitarian aid. He is a certified Tactical Combat Casualty Care and Combat Medic Instructor. Steve has been with BPD for 2 years.
