Chief of Police invites you to register for the Citizens Academy, a FREE 12-week session sponsored by the Beaverton Police Department. Learn about fraud, street gangs, narcotics, traffic accident investigations, firearms, the K-9 teams, and more.

During the 12-week session, classes are held on Thursday nights, 6:30-9:30 p.m., at Beaverton's City Hall, 4755 SW Griffith Drive. Please check the Police Department Event Calendar for the next Academy.

What is the Citizens Academy?

It is a 12-week program designed to give Beaverton area residents, in an academy setting, first-hand information about how their police department works. The goal is to partner citizens and police to fight crime together.

Who teaches the sessions?

The instructors are officers and personnel from the Department who teach in their areas of expertise. Each has years of training and street experience.

What are the topics covered?

  • Deadly force and the judicial system

  • Crime potential reduction
  • Records Division
  • 9-1-1 and problem oriented policing

Optional activities include instructions on the use of pepper spray, a hands-on demonstration of simulated attacks, a tour of the Washington County Jail and 9-1-1 dispatch center, plus a chance to ride in a patrol car for one shift.
