Free Document Shredding!
Identity theft and fraud crimes are on the rise. The City of Beaverton wants to help you avoid becoming a victim of identity theft and fraud by keeping your personal information away from the hands of thieves. One of the methods thieves use to steal your information is combing through recycling and garbage for sensitive information that has been thrown away. The Police Department recommends and encourages citizens to use a shredder (preferably cross-cut) for sensitive documents, such as credit card statements, financial statements, pre-approved credit card offers, old IRS tax forms, bank checks, household bills, etc.
The Beaverton Police Department will be sponsoring free shredding events from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the following locations:
April 17, 2010 – Beaverton City Hall Parking Lot, 4755 SW Griffith Drive
June 19, 2010 – Beaverton City Hall Parking Lot, 4755 SW Griffith Drive
August 21, 2010 – Beaverton City Hall Parking Lot, 4755 SW Griffith Drive
October 16, 2010 – Beaverton City Hall Parking Lot, 4755 SW Griffith Drive
December 11, 2010 – Beaverton City Hall Parking Lot, 4755 SW Griffith Drive
Participants are encouraged to donate canned food to the Oregon Food Bank at shredding events.
Cintas Document Management will donate one commercial-sized shredding truck to use for this event. Items no larger than staples and paper clips may be attached to the papers. Limit of three boxes per vehicle. Service will be on a first come, first served basis and limited to the capacity of one commercial-sized shredding truck. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause should this capacity be reached.
