WASHINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE CIVIL UNIT


If your petition for a protective order is granted by a judge, all paperwork will need to be taken to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office to be served to the other person. The Sheriff’s Office is located a couple of blocks from the courthouse, and the Civil Unit is located on the second floor.

HELPFUL INFORMATION

  • Appointments are not necessary
  • All protective order petitions are free of charge
  • Bring photo ID
  • In order to petition for a protective order and to be seen by a judge on the same day you must arrive no later than 9:30 AM to complete the paperwork
  • For Stalking Protective Orders with law enforcement involvement/stalking citations, a court date and time may be set for you and you must be present at the hearing
  • Assistance is available at each location to help you complete the petition paperwork and answer questions about the petition process
  • Advocates are available for assistance and court accompaniment for all petitions at DVRC
  • At 1:00 PM, you will need to go before a judge at the Courthouse with your petition
  • Allow extra time for going through security at the Courthouse
  • Children must remain under your supervision at all times. Judges do not allow children in the courtroom. It is recommended that you bring a support person along to care for your children.

PROTECTIVE ORDER HEARING DATES


Monday – Friday:
Restraining Orders/Family Abuse Protective Order, Elder and Disabled Person Abuse Protective Order, and Sexual Abuse Protective Order petition hearings take place each day of the week.

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays:
Stalking Order petition hearings are ONLY held on these three days each week.
